Your account in mind
The value of your metals.
The context of your IRA.
Considering selling gold or silver bullion or coins held in your IRA? Start with your holdings list. This guide explains what to prepare and which questions to discuss with your custodian.
The same clear starting point
List what is held.
Keep the account
in view.
Begin with your holdings information and note that the metals are held in an IRA. You do not need to decide on a sale to prepare this list.
-
Your metals
Record the metal, product and quantity shown in your holdings information. Separate different coins or bars when possible.
-
The custodian context
Your custodian is part of an IRA sale. Its required steps need to be clear before arrangements are made.
-
Your questions
List what you need to understand about value, a possible sale or your account. Keep questions about selling, taking a distribution and changing custodians separate.
An important distinction
Account-held metals.
An account-aware path.
Personally held metals and IRA-held metals start with the same question of value. The account context changes how the subsequent arrangements are handled. Aurstream handles the metals transaction; your custodian administers your IRA. We do not provide investment or tax advice.
If you are considering a sale in connection with an RMD, distinguish selling metals inside the IRA from taking a distribution. A custodian change may also be possible without a sale; confirm the particular holdings and instructions with the custodians.
In an IRA sale, proceeds go to the custodian-designated account, not to you personally. Taking a distribution is a separate step to discuss with your custodian.
Before you begin
Clarity for
your account.
Do I need every account detail to begin?
Start with your holdings and indicate that they are held in an IRA. A preparation list does not need account passwords, account numbers or a complete statement.
Is requesting a valuation the same as arranging a sale?
No. An inquiry begins with understanding your metals. A sale requires a separate decision on a valid formal quote.
What if I also hold metals personally?
Distinguish your personal holdings from the metals in your IRA. They should not be treated as one undifferentiated holding because the account context matters.

A clearer view
of your next step.
Prepare a description of the bullion and coins held in your IRA, and discuss the account requirements with your custodian.
