Tax & Reporting

Sales and use tax

Tax treatment depends on the transaction, the products and the relevant jurisdiction. Some jurisdictions provide exemptions for qualifying bullion or coins, sometimes subject to minimum transaction values or other conditions. An exemption for one product or location does not establish an exemption for every transaction.

Any applicable taxes charged by Aurstream will be identified in the transaction documents. A resale or other exemption must be supported by the documentation required by applicable law. Sales-tax treatment does not determine the income-tax consequences of selling your metals.

Selling metals and tax records

Selling metals may result in a taxable gain or a loss, depending on your circumstances. Keep your acquisition, ownership and transaction records. Whether Aurstream is required to issue an information return is a separate question from whether you must report a transaction on your own tax return. The absence of a form does not establish that a sale is tax-free.

Aurstream complies with applicable identification, recordkeeping and information-reporting requirements. We may request information needed for those purposes through an appropriate secure process. We do not arrange transactions to evade reporting requirements or advise customers on how to avoid them.

IRA-held metals

A sale of metals held within an IRA and a distribution from an IRA are different events. Instructions, settlement and any account reporting must be coordinated with the relevant custodian. Consult your independent tax adviser before directing a distribution, transfer or other action affecting your retirement account.
